Seeing the Light

Our mission today was to bring light to the villages of Israel and Somotillo.  Tom, Jeff C., Jeff H., Jim, and Jose installed skylights in 7 homes in Israel.  Most homes have metal or tile roofs and no electricity, so they get very little light.

We pass by the volcano, Christobal, each day on our way to our mission sites.

Mission in Progress

The team has been very busy these past 2 days in the communities of Israel and Villa Nueva . We have divided into smaller groups to complete the tasks we have been asked to accomplish. We always have a plan, but it usually changes several times a day, so we have learned to be very flexible.

Washing sand in the river for the water filtration systems.

The cows are extra cute here, part bunny I think...

The Health and Hygiene team continued lessons with the women in Israel.

This little darling performed a traditional folk dance for our enjoyment.

170 pairs of glasses were given to the people in Villa Nueva.

The evangelism team, Ralph and Danny.

The water filter team is checking the flow rate on the water filters.

All in all, a great couple of days. Please pray for endurance under the oppressive heat. The temperature will be 15 degrees hotter for the rest of the week. Thanks for your prayers.

The Sabbath

Today was a day of rest and worship.  We took a trip to the beach, where we had lunch at a nice restaurant on the shore...

Kim and I are not sure how to start on this fish... but it was actually very tasty

From the beach, we went back to Israel to attend their church service.  We were greeted by some of the friends we made yesterday. This one wore the sunglasses she got at our clinic.

Pastor Ghermon is on the right, along with translators and the church songleader.

Jim is gifted with the ability to make the kids laugh by wiggling his ears.

All mi amigos...

Thank you for all your prayers.  We´re praying for you at home too.

First day in the field

We arrived safely in Chinandega Friday evening and went right to work this morning.  Today´s work was conducting an eyeglass clinic in Israel.  Between the temperature and humidity, we were all soaked within the first few minutes and had to make an effort to stay hydrated throughout the day, but we fitted about 100 people with eyeglasses.  We made some new amigos in our interpreters and all the people who came to the clinic were very polite and appreciative.  We even had a local eye doctor come and help us out in the afternoon.
This is what we looked like on arrival:

And this is what we looked like a short time later:
